SXY

I bought 2 parcels of VPE a long time ago.  Then I sold one for stagging profit.  Thought I was smart.  Yesterday, it had a 6x increase in profit from good performance.  That is expected to rise further.  Yet, the share price hardly moved!  It is now SXY.

Gold

POG is the best yoyo show in town...

With this kind of unaccountable swings, you can be sure there is manipulation.  Do not dabble in the gold when there is no rationale behind the price movement.  In the longer term, because it costs a lot to explore and then to mine and transform the metal into ingots, it cannot remain low when there is a demand for it; not usage but demand.

Hence, I don't intend to trade my gold stocks nor buy bullions.

China and POG

China is now the biggest producer and consumer of gold.  Therefore, China now dictates the POG on a longer term basis.  Short term POG is still a mystery to me.  Last night, it jumped.  At a price of below USD$1200 per oz, many of the big gold producers are suffering.  The law of economics is dependent on the supply-demand balance.

I have not wavered on my belief that gold has been oversold but I do not have spare cash to top up gold miners in my super fund anymore...  with thanks to Uncle Wayne from Queensland.

With a big leap yesterday, I can expect to enjoy a ride on the ASX on Monday, especially since the US market was up on Friday end of trade.

Printing money for wealth

Japanese are doing it.

The Yanks are doing it.

However, last night at the Feds meeting, because it is not obvious whether it will continue to print money, the US market fell and the AUD fell, too.  And POG fell.  Price of copper fell a little, too.  The ASX All Ords will be hammered.  And my commodity-based shares will get a drenching!

Going to spend more time in the garden!

TON

Another good news today.  At least, this time the share price went up.  But like many share prices of exploration companies, the euphoria only lasts for a short while so it will dip again unless there is another better news.

My last lot was bought at 5.6c early this week but my first lot was purchased at 6.8c in May after the forum.

Sooner or later, an Oriental company is going to swoop on this stock.  Most exploration companies are only interested in quick bucks.  Developing into a production company requires a lot of capital and under the present circumstances, few banks will lend money to unknown companies.  So it looks like that I will only be a temporary part-owner of TON.  But I am always happy to trade with profits.

TON

When TON announced another good news, its share price fell.  So I topped up again.

http://www.mining.com/so-when-will-all-these-wonderful-graphene-innovations-make-it-out-of-the-lab-58577/

What a pity it is going to take such a long unpredictable time scale to commercialize graphene!  But TON has a neighbour that jumped in value after its discovery of a graphite deposit.  At a seminar I attended, TON's load is not small...  It needed a few drilling results to confirm its presence.  A few has now been done but markets are not kind to good exploration results.  Currently, a company has to have a good track of reliable dividends out of rising profits to gain support.

So stick to banks but because every lemming is already there, I can only say banks are great for income.  If you want to buy banks, do it six months ago...  I did top up on ANZ by rounding up my share holdings with only a small parcel.

Lying low...

When US economy is doing well, there is a fear that the Feds will stop QE.  In the meantime, the French and German economies are picking up.  China is still okay but nothing like in previous years.  The Japanese economy improvement is also secondary to the government asking the central bank to prink more yens.

Because I cannot understand how the market is going to move, I am lying low.  Uncle Wayne when he was in power, also made sure I cannot pump decent new money into my super fund too.

ABU

This went down badly recently due to POG collapsing.  Yet, its feasible study was based on USD$1300 per oz.  And it is starting to produce, though on a small scale.

As it finds more gold and upgrade its resources, hopefully investors will see value.  I don't have spare cash or else I would still invest in this stock even though I carry a loss now.

WBC

When the Greek crisis was at its peak, banks shares were dumped; even Australian banks.  I bought some WBC at about $26. The next day, it dropped a dollar; I bought a bigger parcel.  Then the very next day, it fell another $1.  My wife didn't know but I bought more!

My only regret now is when it fell further, I didn't buy anymore...

NEA

If someone comes up with an investment plan and wants you to invest in maps, competing with Google Maps, you would certainly tell him/her to go somewhere else.

So recently, NEA is my star performer in a market that is full of negativity.  It has risen more than 4 times and most of it in the last year because...  it is making a profit!  And according to its sign-up rate, a bigger profit is expected.

This one is pure luck because while I bought it because of intellectual property rights, it made it biggest gain because of maps.

TON

Other than one capital raising by GTE, my portfolio has been dead quiet.  But last week, when TON had a good announcement with its graphite find in Mozambique, the share price remained dead quiet too.  I put in a bid slightly below the market price and collected half of what I wanted.

Graphite uses will be greatly increased in the near future.  One recent Nobel Prize winner (including an Aussie expat in the USA who is... no longer an Ozzie) in Physics was for the extraction of graphene from graphite.  It has amazing properties.

The market is very harsh and good news are often ignored unless it is incredibly good.
