non-bank stocks...

I bought OSH when it was developing...  so I have a good run with it.  But because the price of oil has fallen sharply, its value has fallen drastically.  Hence, the banks are climbing over it in value.  However, on my super portfolio, Chinese tourists are still piling into Australia.  While banks are still the most prominent, SYD is gradually eroding the lead by CBA.  A large section of my CBA shares were gotten when it took over the State Bank of NSW.  I bought the small bank shares when it was privatised.  Because we were customers, we had priority allocation...  Those shares had two spurts; one when it was listed and then when it was taken over by CBA.

Wall Street

Once it was "when the USA sneezes, Aussies get the cold"... and then it became "when China sneezes..."   Now it is "when either the USA or China sneezes...."

However for the last few sessions, the USA hasn't been sneezing, so the stock markets have been rallying...

When the bank share prices plunged recently, I topped up ANZ, WBC and CBA.  I haven't bought shares on the market for a while.  However, following my father's adage that if the (reliable) dividend is better than interest on bank deposits, buy the shares... so I did.  It is nearly impossible to buy at the trough but I have profited out of the recent purchases.  Who knows the price might start to fall tomorrow!

Bank shares

While the Four Pillar Policy is still active, there is no better buy for super fund in the ASX than the four banks.  Australian economy is still doing okay and the 4-Bank monopoly means the average Aussie does not have to worry about the solvency of the banks.

Hence when the other markets dump their bank shares, I bought more!  I have topped up CBA and WBC yesterday and topped up ANZ today.

Gold

Sometimes it is a hedge against bad times and at other times, you have no idea what it is.  And who determines the price of gold?

Lately, it has been a hedge.  What I know is production is not keeping up with demand but who needs production?  The central banks of the world keep a huge hoard of gold.  So if one chooses to sell, the price just tumbles!

Not all gold stocks are valuable... only those in production (NST) or near production or have verifiable reserves... like GOR.

VLA

Viralytics is different from my other investment.  It is one of the few biotech companies in my portfolio.  I received a refund 2 days ago as I only received about 40% of the $15000 I applied for in the SPP.  Still I bought at 61.5c for the SPP and it went to 78c a few days ago...
