AQO

The share price jumped this AM before a trading halt was requested.  Surely, there is insider trading.

That isn't my point.  Six months ago, I topped up because of an excellent article in The Australian as to why one should invest in this stock.  It has more than 20tcf of gas (potentially) but only a small portion is extractable.  The Chinese are taken many bcf of gas per year from Siberia and it was big news.  1 tcf is 1000 bcf.  Even if only a small percentage can be extracted, you can see what AQO is worth.

So with an impending "material transaction" going on, you don't know if it is a takeover or something else.  Because I topped up at 15c and I got a parcel from a stockbroker a long time ago, I am doing fine at the moment and hope to be "finer" when the announcement is made and trading halt is lifted.

BDR

I can't believe it.  After reading the announcement by BDR a few minutes ago, the share price has fallen a tiny bit.  It has discover an new lode of gold outside current estimate.  And then with an infill drilling, it too has discover another lode of gold.  You just cannot believe that investors are selling!!!

While I am trying very hard not to buy any more resource shares, it is so difficult not to jump in when idiots are jumping out!

19m at 62.8g is an excellent result.  And this is best of the lot this AM but the rest are still fantastic.

OSH

It feels like the good old days of the resource boom.  OSH share purchase plan was for $8.20 a piece.  And yesterday, it closed at $9.30.  Hence, a nice 13% rise within a fortnight.  You can't make this kind of profit lately!

Even better still is the near future prospect as LNG is shipped.  The whole process has moved along nicely and will be a great earner for the venture.  Nothing is ever that smooth though...  There is political trouble brewing in PNG over the government's debt.

And China is not out of its doldrums.  So I expect nothing dramatic; in fact rather negative.  But I am happy with my OSH investment, a slow and steady rise over 8 years...  using my own research.

When I am 64...

No, I am not waiting for 64.  When I hit 60 soon, it will be time to reflect on life differently.  Up to 60, you build your nest.  And you can take extra risk.  But then on, I will be mostly be investing in stable blue chips with good income.

My days as a busy anaesthetist are over or rather was over for the last 7 years.  So I cannot afford to indulge in highly speculatively shares now.  Hence, new money will be heading towards secure investment with less likelihood of vaporizing.

Tonight, I notice a sharp rise in the net value of OSH.  This investment has been fruitful and topped up with a share purchase plan just last fortnight.  And income will be streaming in if all goes well.  So far the investment in PNG has gone on smoothly and better than expected.

Likewhise, WPL might return some capital... hopefully.

Lemmings

China signed a gas deal with the modern day Hitler yesterday worth USD$400 billion over 30 years, and the share market went up.  And the price of iron ore is falling but still iron ore producers' share prices all went up.

What is the logic other than financial people behaving like lemmings?  These lemmings are paid huge amount of money to behave like lemmings.  I am certainly not touching anything today.

WCL

Strange that no one was really interested in this company with gas acreage in Queensland.  A Chinese company bid around 40c and its share price was at 28.5c.  Santos is interested in its gas and signed a contract with it.  Even then its share price was not going north of the bidding price.

I topped up at 28.5c when the second bid was announced.  Because I did that, my average price is now around the current market price.  I bought when it was much higher.

OSH

I have ignored most capital raisings recently.  In fact, most have fallen after issuing.

One stock, I chose to participate in full is OSH.  Not only is the SPP issue price cheaper and remained cheaper than the market price, it stayed up even after the offer closed.

Instantly, it was a >12% profit for just the SPP portion.  I have done well with OSH because I bought a long time ago in 2005 and 2006.  What is amazing is, in spite of reviewers after reviewers pointing to a successful LNG plant in PNG (joint venture with STO and Exxon) coming ahead of schedule without the burden of gross budget overrun, and the prospect of a nice dividend stream in the near future, the share price has not zoomed ahead.  This is one of my biggest share purchases in the last year.

On one portfolio, this is streaking ahead of the rest except for WPL.  Those WPL shares that I bought more than 10 years ago have done very well but WPL has been a laggard in the last 7 years.  Likewise, STO has been a laggard too.  Hopefully, the PNG venture will compensate for the poor performance of STO in the past.

ANZ

I haven't checked the share price yet.  But I topped up a small parcel of ANZ because the share price fell yesterday and there is dividend to collect before the 9/5/14.

Other than Ukranian/Russian posturing, I see no reason for an Aussie bank to fall.

Like a poodle, the ASX followed Wall Street this AM so I am expecting a minor rise.  Bank shares are the best for people going into retirement... like me.  Stable, easy to trade and pays great franked dividends.  Dabbling in small resource stocks is no longer a regular option.  I did top up my shares in OSH with the share purchase plan.
